Chapter 5's Newest Chapter

May 17, 2007 - Jim Price

This Friday night, May 18, one of Altoona’s longest-running and hardest-hitting bands unleashes their latest chapter.  Chapter 5 releases their new and long-awaited third CD, A Great Day to Die.  The CD will be officially unveiled at a CD-release event at Aldo’s Place in Juniata.

Chapter 5 first formed in 1992 as a group of friends and punk rockers who converged to form a band.  The group released their first CD in 1997, and their second in 1999.  Chapter 5 has played many shows along the way throughout the Northeast, including several appearances at the legendary (and now defunct) CBGB’s in New York City.  They have played numerous all-ages and over-21 shows on Altoona area stages over the years.  The current edition of Chapter 5 features Tim Mort on lead vocals and bass guitar, Tom Noel on guitar and backing vocals, Shaun Barr on guitar, and Bill Mort on drums.  Two additional members, vocalist Mike Long and guitarist Jamie Mort, are currently on hiatus.

Chapter 5’s style since the beginning has been bristling, hardcore-driven punk rock with aggressive, charging rhythms, and angry, incendiary vocals.  The group’s lyrics deal with themes of personal pride, standing up for one’s beliefs, and accountability.  Their live show is furious, hard-driving and constantly action-packed.

The new CD, A Great Day to Die, is being released on Altoona-based independent recording label Heartless Mockery Records.  The CD features eight songs: “Inside Out,’ “Buried,” “Hollow Song,” “Self Inflicted,” “Compromised,” “Same Old Thing,” “The Only Way” and “Stand Alone.”

The CD-release event at Aldo’s will begin at 9 PM, and will feature performances from Chapter 5, Choking Faith, Suicide Switch and Vengence.  Admission to the show is $5.  Copies of the new CD will be available for purchase.

Aldo’s is located at 623 N. 4th Avenue in Juniata.  For more information, call 943-9907.
