Never a dull moment with a dog

July 5, 2007 - Amy Jo Hanna-Eckenrode

My co-worker Lori always has the best stories to share about her fur-babies, so I've finally coaxed her to tell us one "blog-style"!

benson chairHi everyone! I'm Benson's Mom, a co-worker of Amy's and, well, Benson's Mom! My husband and I are the parents of a 3-year-old son, Benson, (aka - crazy Golden Retriever), and 12-year-old-ish son, Tyler, (aka - usually calmer than his brother - Black Lab). Here's my first of, hopefully, many contributions to "Have Dog, Will Blog"....

While out trimming the front hedges last week my husband was talking to the neighbor and their new Yellow Lab puppy, Jake. We had not known about the new addition to the neighborhood up until then. The next evening Benson and I went for a walk. When we made it back to our house the neighbor's wife and kids were out. We congratulated them on their new addition and a few minutes later they brought Jake over to meet Benson. We humans had a nice talk while the two dogs got acquainted. There was jumping and sniffing and peeing (Jake and Benson, of course). After a little time passed the neighbor started "no, no, no-ing" Benson in kind of an excited tone. To my surprise when I looked down, he had decided to 'mark' Jake's already wet spot on the sidewalk which I was standing just a little too close to. So by the time he lifted his leg... yep, he got me not the sidewalk. And here I thought the days of Benson knowing where he could and couldn't go were over. Ugh! I guess we need to work on his aim.
