FSN to feature Dalton's team

October 10, 2007 - Neil Rudel
A familiar face to Altoona High School, Blair County and District 6 football fans will get some regional air time Thursday night.
Ed Dalton, who coached Altoona from 1994-98 and led the Mountain Lions to a pair of District 6 Class AAAA titles, is in his ninth season at Trinity, which will meet Thomas Jefferson on the Fox Sports Pittsburgh high school game of the week.
Dalton is 41-45 at Trinity, located in Washington, Pa. He's 4-2 this year and has plenty of talent, including Division I linebackers Mike Yancich (Penn State) and Andrew Sweat (Ohio State).
Mr. Ed appeared on FSN last week to help hype the game, and it was the same old Dalton as when he was at Altoona -- same haircut, same personality, same sense of humor, same excitability, which is to say it's tough to confine him to a seated position.
Under his direction, the Mountain Lions went 35-23 with a hard-hitting, run-oriented style. He also had success previously at Purchase Line, winning a D6-AA title in 1990.
Dalton was at his best from November to September, creating enthusiasm around the community. On game night, however, it was a little different story as he was so intense that his staff couldn't reach him, and he'd often be out of timeouts with two minutes left in the first quarter.
It will be fun to watch him coach again.
