Baking Cookies With The Girls
December 11, 2007 - Amy Jo Hanna-Eckenrode
I can't say I don't have a lot of offers of help when I decide to bake Christmas cookies. I finally got off my duff Sunday and spent the entire day pumping out about 12 dozen delectable yummies. (move over Martha).
My kitchen is small so in addition to measuring, stirring, scooping, dropping, testing and cooling, I also have to hurdle Jesse who comfortably sprawls her 70-lb frame out across the kitchen floor between the sink and oven. I kinda feel like a bit of a ballerina as I twirl from one counter to the other balancing trays of hot, freshly baked cookies over Jess's head and onto another surface.
Talk about a hopeful spirit, Jess never gave up one minute thinking she might luck out and get a morsel of whatever it was I creating. I didn't want to give her raw cookie dough, or nuts, or chocolate chips so the most she got was a Milkbone every now and again. For an old girl who spends the majority of her daylight hours sleeping, Jess had a very long, tiring day waiting for something to fall from the counter.
