| | The Blade Runner narrowly misses Olympic berthJuly 21, 2008 - Erik BrownOscar Pistorius, the inspirational double-amputee, narrowly missed the qualifying time for South Africa’s 1600 meter relay team last Wednesday, ending his hopes of participating in the Summer Olympics in Beijing. Pistorius ran a personal best 46.25, but missed the 45.55 qualifying standard by 0.70 seconds. Click here for the story, or see my June 1st post titled, What To Do About The Blade Runner. Since I’m on the subject of the Olympics, it seems like a good time to do another segment on one of my favorite Olympic heroes. With apologies for the poor video quality, check out the story of Abebe Bikila from Ethiopia. Running barefoot, Bikila won the marathon at the 1960 Olympic Games in Rome and again at the Tokyo Games in 1964, albeit that time with shoes on. | EZToUse.com |
