He didn't 'Sell' us short

We had a story in the sports section today wrapping up Brian Sell's performance in the Olympic marathon.

Sell, a native of Bedford County and a graduate of both Northern Bedford High School, finished 22nd in the field.

He was the third area product to participate in the Games, following Hollidaysburg's Ward McLanahan, who competed in the pole vault in 1904 (finishing fourth) and Cresson's Maureen Latterner, who represented the United States in team handball in 1988.

The media requests in those days weren't nearly what they are today, and I'd like to publicly thank Sell for his patience and cooperation leading up to the 2008 Games.

He was available and responded countless times as we did advance stories and a running diary.

Sell may not have won the gold medal, but he is a gold-medal representative from this area as far as we're concerned.
