In the dark
September 17, 2008 - John Mehno
I was headed home from PNC Park Sunday evening when the windstorm was blowing through. That was scary enough, but then the street lights started going out.
End result: I still haven't seen one play in the Steelers-Browns game. The power went out shortly after 8 Sunday night and still isn't back on. According to always-helpful Duquesne No-Light hotline, it should be back by 11 p.m. on Friday. In the meantime, I'm living like "The Waltons," minus the other 12 people.
Good thing the Pirates are home (and who thought I would ever say that?) Going to the ballpark, I can get Internet access and can charge my cell phone. Wonder if they'd let me throw my laundry in the clubhouse washers? Never mind, I might catch something.
UPDATE: The lights came back on just after 4 p.m. on Wednesday, which meant we were four hours short of going three full days without power.
I will have clean shirts to wear for the remainder of the Pirates' last homestand, and I'll be putting the candles and matches away.
