We have a winner!

Of all the e-mails received predicting the Pirates' 2008 victory total, none was as brief as Ralph Weakland's.

On April 2, he sent a message that read in its entirety:

Just after seven o'clock on Sunday evening, the Pirates wrapped up a win over the Padres in San Diego to achieve that final record.

For his foresight, Ralph will soon be receiving a bunch of Pirates junk stuff that has piled up over the last season.

Congratulations to Ralph, and thanks to everyone who participated. Too bad for Mary, whose magic number was 66. If it's any consolation, Mary, you were in the hunt until the last day of the season -- just like the Mets. The predictions ranged from a low of 59 to a high of 102, and numbers in the 70s were the most popular.
