November 23, 2008 - John Mehno
Wow, a Sunday with no Steelers game really disrupts the routine. Nice to be back in front of the television after two straight Sundays at Heinz Field. Two good games today: Tennessee's hopes for an undefeated season were shattered by the Jets, and the Giants and Cardinals had a shootout in the desert.
Pitt's loss at Cincinnati consigns the Panthers to an ordinary season. No BCS Bowl, likely no shot at the Big East title.
The Penguins somehow managed to lose on home ice to Vancouver, even though the Canucks should have been road-weary at the end of a long trip. They also lost goalie Roberto Luongo during the game to one of those dreaded undisclosed injuries.
My friend John Perrotto reports the Pirates' search for a new broadcaster has narrowed to four candidates. Meanwhile, the "retired" Lanny Frattare has been pursuing work with the Atlanta Braves and the new MLB network. Former Fox Sports Pittsburgh staffer Trenni Kusnierek recently signed on with MLB as a reporter.
If you get a chance this week, enjoy two great Thanksgiving-themed movies from the 1980s: "Planes, Trains and Automobiles" with Steve Martin and John Candy, and Woody Allen's "Broadway Danny Rose."
