| | Area runners headed to PittsburghApril 29, 2009 - Erik BrownAfter a six year hiatus, the Pittsburgh Marathon returns this Sunday, May 3rd. It will be the 20th running of the race, which began in 1985. The 2001 Pittsburgh Marathon holds a special place on my running resume as the only road race I ever finished ahead of my lovely and gracious. One of her illio bands flared up and she was forced to walk/jog the last 6 miles. I caught her with just over a mile to go, stopped long enough to make sure she didn’t need an ambulance, then triumphantly slogged my way to the finish line a minute or two ahead of her! Truth be told, I could have beaten Deanna in a 10K in Centre Hall, PA many years ago, but we were only engaged then and I was still on my best behavior. In fact, I even allowed my future father-in-law to beat me that day. My sportsmanship knows no limits. If you know of someone running in Pittsburgh this weekend, and they aren’t listed below, please take a moment to add their name via the comments box at the bottom.
