One more mountain
May 29, 2009 - John Mehno
The NHL playoffs are so long, it's easy to lose track of the significance of the final round. This is it, the equivalent of the World Series or Super Bowl.
Penguins vs. Detroit Red Wings for the second straight year and I'm cautiously picking the Penguins in six or seven games.
The Red Wings are loaded with front-line talent and they're probably the deepest team in the league. But they also seem to have a lot of injury issues, and I think that creates a great opportunity for the Penguins. The Penguins won't be spooked by the environment the way they were last year, and I don't think Evgeni Malkin will wilt like he did last year. Sidney Crosby and Malkin are absolutely on top of their game.
The Penguins are hot, they have last year's experience and it looks like they're the healthier team, too.
