The Penguins officially wrapped up things at Mellon Arena, which is a bit odd considering they could play as many as 16 more games there.

Of course. they had no choice since they don't know when the last game will actually be. It depends on what happens in the playoffs. As things stand now, they could have 16more  games, or they could have two.

And a hockey game won't be the last event. There will be concerts during the summer.

The new building will open with a concert, too, probably in late August. The rumor is that Paul McCartney will open the building, but that's not official. There is some connection there since the Beatles played the Civic Arena in September of 1964.

Sometime between now and then, I plan to do a piece for the Mirror on the closing of Mellon Arena, recalling some of the memories of more than 1,500 days and nights in that building.
