A thousand words
May 11, 2010 - Erik Brown
A picture says a thousand words – at least that’s how the expression goes. I don’t know if that’s true, but I saw a photograph in Saturday’s Altoona Mirror that conveyed an unmistakable message to me as a former coach and as a parent.
The photo said deep disappointment, bewilderment, frustration, a measure of anger, a bit of embarrassment, dismay, and sadness.
I also saw concern for the well-being of two student athletes, and sincere hope that they, and their peers, will take a valuable lesson from the consequences of making bad choices.
I think it’s safe to say that virtually everyone gathered at Mansion Park on Friday evening shared many of these feelings – especially the concern and hope.
Kudos and thanks to everyone involved in putting on another terrific West Central Coaches Track & Field Invitational. It obviously takes a tremendous amount of organization, communication, time, and effort to put on one of the best high school track & field meets in the state each year, and we’re blessed in this area that the folks associated with the AASD Track & Field program are willing to do it.
Thanks for reading Against The Wind.
