Bleeding Black and Gold...
August 21, 2010 - Ray Eckenrode
Three things to look for tonight in the Steelers preseason game against the New York Giants:
- Many happy returns?
Antonio Brown, last week’s breakout rookie performer, will return both kickoffs and punts tonight. If he can make it through the game without a fumble, Stefan Logan’s days in black and gold are numbered.
- Great Scott?
Before the Steelers brought in Flozell Adams, they signed Jonathan Scott, who started eight games last year for the Bills, to add depth on the O line. After one week with Adams in the lineup at right tackle, Scott is going to get a long look. It will be hard for him to be worse in pass protection than Adams was, but keep an eye (Scott is #72) on his run blocking, where Adams did a fairly decent job last week.
- A farewell to legs
We were on the record last offseason encouraging the Steelers to sign a veteran RB (T.J. Duckett anyone?) and it now appears that they’ll pay a price for failing to do so. Rookie Jonathan Dwyer, touted by many “experts” as one of the absolute steals of the 2010 draft, is flaming out in epic fashion, reporting to camp overweight, gaining eight yards on six carries in his first action, then getting hurt. He won't play tonight, which means, in all likelihood, Isaac Redman will be backing up Rashard Mendenhall come opening day and the Steelers are one injury away from offensive chaos.
We're going to be at PNC Park tonight to get a look at James McDonald. We'll get some kind of Steelers blog up by Sunday a.m.
