A Fest for Everybody
October 15, 2010 - Jim Price
If you are seeking live music pleasure this weekend, October 16-17, the Oriental Ballroom in Gallitzin is where you will find it.
The first-ever Everybody Fest will take place both Saturday and Sunday inside the Oriental Ballroom. The doors open at 11 a.m., with music starting at 12 noon Saturday and 11 a.m. Sunday.
Organized by Raymond Springsteel, Everybody Fest will celebrate area music throughout the weekend. Performances will be in the spotlight, with a multitude of groups and performers taking the stage over both days. Saturday’s slate of performers includes the Acoustic Buddy Band, Mama Corn, 7th Gear, The Hawks, Naildriver, a local all-star Led Zeppelin tribute and Mysterytrain. Scheduled to perform on Sunday are Nick Miller, Rust Dents/Woodstrings, The Fatman Band, E.V.K., Felix & the Hurricanes and Chris Vipond & the Stanley Street Band. Several of the groups will be featuring special and surprise guests during their performances.
Saturday night’s Led Zeppelin tribute is expected to feature up to 13 area musicians, including a who’s who of area guitar players, a bagpipe player, two drummers and several singers.
In addition to the performances, music instructors and teachers will show and demonstrate instruments to aspiring musicians, and instruments and musical supplies will be on sale. Food and refreshments will be available, with all food proceeds benefiting the Gallitzin American Legion. Free overnight camping on the grounds will also be available.
Advance tickets are available at area music stores, and also Pellegrine’s in Altoona. Admission is $5 per person each day; and the ticket price includes one free introductory music lesson at an area music store.
This weekend’s weather forecast is for sunny conditions both days, and autumn foliage colors should be at their peak in the Gallitzin vicinity. Blazing fall colors outside and blazing musical performances inside are in the forecast for everybody who visits the Oriental Ballroom this weekend.
