November 25, 2010 - John Mehno
Hope you have a great holiday.
The lineup of NFL games isn't the greatest, and I don't have the NFL Network, so I won't even get the night game. But that's OK because CBS is running three episodes of "The Big Bang Theory." Nice chance to get caught up. Sheldon kills me.
I'd love to try one of those deep-fried turkeys, but there's no way I would attempt to cook one. Too much potential for flames shooting into the sky and/or botulism. I assume there are people who fry and sell them. Maybe next year.
If you can swing the DVDs, the two best Thanksgiving movies are "Planes, Trains and Automobiles" and "Broadway Danny Rose." The latter is a Woody Allen gem that probably isn't easy to find on short notice. But file it away for future reference.
West Virginia-Pitt at noon on Friday. I'll be at the Ottawa-Penguins hockey game, which starts at 1. Then it's back to the rink on Saturday at 1 for the Calgary-Penguins game. In the old days, the Penguins would beg the NHL for home games on the night before and Saturday after Thanksgiving. They knew there were a lot of people coming back to town for the holiday weekend, and it was a good chance to sell tickets. These days they can play at 5 a.m. and sell out, so they're not as particular.
Back on the couch Sunday for Steelers at Buffalo, a warm-up for the following Sunday's Steelers game at Baltimore. That should be something.
