PSU's Bradley says he hasn't heard from Pitt

January 1, 2011 - Cory Giger
TAMPA, Fla. -- My colleague, Neil Rudel, caught up with Tom Bradley after Saturday's Outback Bowl.

Like Neil, I believe Bradley would be an excellent choice at Pitt.

From the Mirror's PSU notebook:

Bradley has shown interest in the head coaching job at Pitt the couple of times it's been open over the past 10-12 years.

It's open again in the wake of Pitt's firing Saturday of Michael Haywood, but Bradley said after Penn State's loss to Florida that he hasn't heard from Pitt.

He declined further comment.

Bradley has recruited the western Pennsylvania area for many years and owns a home in Pittsburgh. He would be willing to listen to Pitt, it is believed, now that the Panthers are back on the search.

Florida defensive coordinator Teryl Austin, a former Pitt player, is another name that may surface.

Meanwhile, Bradley's day started ominously. He was trapped with 10 players in an elevator for 30 minutes following breakfast at the Hyatt Regency in downtown Tampa, where the Nittany Lions have stayed for the past week.

"I tried to speed it up, but it got stuck between floors," Bradley said. "How's that for a way to start your day?"
