January 14, 2011 - John Mehno
We're less than 48 hours away from a Ravens-Steelers playoff game, and the buzz is....barely audible.
Understand this is just a perception on my part: I don't have my ear to the ground, otherwise I'd wind up with frostbite on one side of my head. But there doesn't seem to be a lot of excitement building for Saturday's game. Maybe the bye week interrupted the momentum of the season (the Steelers have played one game in the last 20 days)....maybe people have had a big event too recently with the NHL Winter Classic...maybe there are too many people believing the Super Bowl is impossible if it means beating the Ravens and Patriots (at New England) just to get there.
It's odd. Usually things are getting crazy around this time because people are anxious for a reason to have a party in the blah period after the holidays. It could all heat up at the last minute. For now, though, it seems strangely quiet in these parts.
