Your chance to win
March 29, 2011 - John Mehno
FRIDAY UPDATE: It's no April Fool's joke....we had some more entries, but some numbers are still available. I'll give you a hint -- think of a year when Bill Mazeroski became a folk hero. Then think of the year after that. Then think of numbers above 72 that aren't 77. Take a shot, you may win. Remember -- it doesn't cost anything to enter. I'd hate to get to September and find that nobody won the prize. --- Even though the wind-chill temperature is still a part of the TV weather forecasts, baseball season is upon is.
The MLB season opens on Thursday, and the Pirates start Friday in Chicago.
So it's also time for the fourth annual "Mainly Mehno" blog contest to guess how many games the Pirates will win. There are 162 games in the season; the Pirates won 57 last year.
You e-mail your guess to me, I put them all in a special folder and we declare the winner when the season ends on Sept. 28. The winner receives a box of leftover promotional stuff from this (and possibly past) seasons.
Here are the rules:
1. All entries must be e-mailed to: firstname.lastname@example.org.
2. No entry can be sent before 3 p.m. on Wednesday, March 30. Any entry arriving before then will be deleted.
3. One entry per person.
4. In the event of duplicate entry, the one received first will win.
5. Past winners are eligible for this year's contest.
I think that's all. We'll keep it open until early next week. I haven't determined the cut-off point yet. Obviously, to get the number you want, it pays to enter early, but not before 3 p.m. on Wednesday.
Good luck, and enjoy the season.
UPDATE: We had a busy first day, but there are still numbers available for you, especially above 72. Jump in and take a chance.
