Son Records: The Gutter Twins

April 21, 2011 - Ray Eckenrode

Son Records: A weeklong look at portrayals and images of Jesus Christ in popular music

“The Stations,” The Gutter Twins

This is the only song chosen for this week that does not mention Jesus by name. Of course, the song’s title is obviously evocative of Christ’s darkest hours and the religious imagery is thick ("I hear the rapture’s coming / They say he’ll be here soon"), not just on this track, but on the entire 2008 album by the Gutter Twins (a collaboration between Greg Dulli and Mark Lanegan, taking their name from the famous Oscar Wilde quote).
