PSU LB Carson with some good smack talk for Iowa
October 4, 2011 - Cory Giger
Penn State linebacker Glenn Carson said a few times he was just joking, but he gave Iowa some pretty good bulletin-board material with comments on a teleconference Tuesday morning.
"Iowa's a wrestling school, and Penn State's a football school, so we've got to take it to them," Carson said.
Carson later said that was a joke and that he grew up thinking of Iowa as a wrestling school because of its great success under former coach Dan Gable.
Iowa has beaten Penn State in eight of the past nine meetings, so clearly it is not just a wrestling school any longer.
"They think that they have this stranglehold on us, and we just have to humble them up a little bit," Carson said when looking back on how the Iowa fans acted last year.
Carson remembered how difficult it was going to Iowa last year, when the Hawkeyes won, 24-3.
"The Iowa crowd was definitely hostile, and I think it's time that we keep them a little bit more humble," he said.
Carson recalled how the Iowa fans were chanting to the PSU players, "Raise your hand if you've ever beat Iowa. That was the one thing that really stood out in my mind."
