Officially, this game got out of hand

I read Philip Cmor's account of the Moshannan Valley-Penns Manor playoff game -- 32 penalties, five ejections -- and concluded that both schools and their coaches ought to be embarrassed.

The coaches, though, aren't the only ones to blame. Put the officials on the list, too.

When officials see an emotionally-charged game is getting too chippy, bringing late hits and penalties, it's their responsibility to keep it under control.

I thought of our old friend Ron Rickens, and what he would do: He'd talk to the teams and he would have brought both coaches to midfield, if necessary, to get the message across.
