| | A Live Music Warm-up for Your Super Bowl WeekendFebruary 3, 2012 - Jim PriceThe area music scene offers plenty of options for getting fired up before the big game on Sunday. Among this weekend’s highlights: Flight 19 will perform at the Cabin Fever Benefit for the Blair County Respiratory Disease Society on Friday evening at the UVA Club in Altoona. Besides live music from the Flight 19 “Party Plane,” the evening will also feature food and refreshments served by local celebrities, and prizes including luxury skybox seats at Blair County Ballpark for an Altoona Curve game donated by M&T Bank. Donation at the door is $15. Another highlight will be a reunion performance of former Cambria County-based rockers Honeybomb, which will take place Friday evening starting at 9 p.m. at the Sankertown VFW in Sankertown (across the railroad tracks from Cresson). Honeybomb was a popular band during their run on area stages in the late ‘90s, and features Betsy Lansberry on vocals, John Charney on guitar, Eric Biter on bass and Dom Peruso on drums. During their first performance together in 15 years, Honeybomb will likely reprise many of their popular cover favorites. Back during their initial run, their version of Led Zeppelin’s “Kashmir” was one of the best I have ever witnessed on a local stage! Nearby, for bluegrass and folk enthusiasts, Tyne & the Fastlyne will make their Blue Moon Saloon debut on Friday evening starting at 9 p.m. Based in State College, Tyne & the Fastlyne is fronted by Morrison’s Cove native Tyne Palazzi, who sings and plays banjo. She has studied banjo under some of the best-known pickers in the business: Tony Furtado, Tony Trischka, Don Wayne Reno and Craig Smith. Tyne & the Fastlyne will perform a mixture of folk, folk-based blues, Appalachian-based string music and more.
