It's Super Sunday
February 5, 2012 - John Mehno
Let's face it, Super Bowl Sunday has become an unofficial national holiday.
You're probably less invested in it because the Steelers got knocked out early, but just about everyone will catch at least part of the game. It's a day for parties, although not for those us with anti-social tendencies and a desire to watch the actual game.
Today's game matches two of the grumpiest coaches in the NFL -- New England's Bill Belichick and Tom Coughlin of the New York Giants. One of them will have an extra level of unhappiness around 10 o'clock tonight.
At least Super Bowl Eve was good for the Steelers with the news that Dermontti Dawson and Jack Butler were elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Dawson becomes the Steelers' first post-1970s era player to make the Hall. Jerome Bettis will join him one of these years.
As far as the game, I'm going with the Giants. I think they're playing their best at the right time of the year, just like the Packers were last year.
Enjoy the game -- it will be seven months before we see real football again.
