McGloin says new PSU coaches teaching 'the right way how to play quarterback,' says didn't have that before
August 23, 2012 - Cory Giger
Matt McGloin didn't come right out and specifically criticize Jay Paterno's abilities as a quarterbacks coach or the previous offensive philosophy at Penn State, but his words were telling nonetheless.
McGloin was asked a simple question Thursday about his comfort level with the offense under new coach Bill O'Brien and quarterbacks coach Charlie Fisher.
"I'm definitely light years ahead of where I was, not only in terms of a quarterback but in terms of a leader as well," he said.
Then McGloin followed up with these comments:
"Coach O'Brien and Coach Fisher are doing a tremendous job with the quarterbacks. They're just teaching us the right way how to play the game of football and the right way how to play quarterback.
"We've never had anything like that before here, so we're really happy with the progress that we've made, and hopefully we're able to show everybody how far we've come."
It's no secret that Jay Paterno's quarterback coaching skills were heavily criticized during his tenure. And in just a few months it already appears that McGloin and the other quarterbacks are getting better coaching than they've had in a long time at PSU.
