A Great Pumpkin of a Time in Hollidaysburg
October 19, 2012 - Jim Price
Fall festival activity continues to provide outdoor live music this weekend. Hollidaysburg will present its annual Pumpkin Festival on Saturday, October 20 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. along Allegheny Street. Various organizations and vendors will present pumpkin and Halloween-based crafts, pumpkin-based foods (including pumpkin chili), and live music on two stages. The main stage performances will include hometown favorite Rich Edmundson kicking things off at 10 a.m., followed by popular folk/bluegrass favorites Mama Corn at 11 a.m., the percussion barrage of Kanit with the Hollidaysburg Area Junior High School drumline at 1 p.m., and the folk and Americana sounds of Pat McGinnis and Tyne Palazzi at 3 p.m. Children’s entertainment will take the spotlight on the second stage, with various kid-themed activities and Dan & Galla playing children’s songs at 1 p.m. Admission is free.
Halloween season begins to kick off on area stages this weekend with a few events. A special Halloween-themed concert at Altoona’s Railroaders Museum on Saturday evening will raise money to help area children dealing with Type 1 diabetes. Without Zerb will kick off the festivities at 6, with Rain Must Fall capping the show. Donation at the gate is $10.
Another Saturday night Halloween bash happens at the Altoona Ramada. Awkward Morning Productions presents their second annual Kickoff to Halloween “Dance of the Dead” Party starting at 8 p.m. The evening will feature entertainment of several forms, including live music and deejays. The live music will feature The Hope Fallacy, Xs For Eyes, the Fisticuffs and Apollocreed on one stage, as well as The Crypt Creepers Halloween Band and more. There will also be vendor tables available. Admission is $10 if you arrive in costume, $15 if not in costume.
On Sunday evening, Pellegrine’s will host an all-ages Halloween heavy metal party. Pellegrine’s and Placid Promotions present “Halloween Scream Metal Night,” featuring area heavy-rocking bands Samara, GG & the Assassins and Black Sun. That show kicks off at 6 p.m.
Rock and wrestling join forces at the Young People’s Community Center in Ebensburg on Saturday afternoon to raise money for the Bikers For Kids Foundation. “Rock N Restling” will feature regional pro wrestling courtesy of Johnstown-based Phoenix Pro Wrestling, including a ladder and a cage match. Live music will take place as well, featuring the Backyard Rockers, Paragon 1, The Sitch and Drop Dead Sarcasm.
