Hinish, Brandis, and Spisak shine on big stages

November 12, 2012 - Erik Brown
Against The Wind congratulates Williamsburg native and Bishop Guilfoyle graduate, Sonja Hinish on her 4th place finish in the women's open division of the 2012 USA Track & Field 50 Mile Championships. The race was held in conjunction with the Tussey Mountainback 50 Mile Relay and Ultramarathon on Sunday, October 21st. Sonja completed the challenging 50 mile Mountainback course, through the Rothrock State Forest, in 7:56:41.

Congratulations also to Alyssa Brandis on her 2nd place finish at the PIAA Cross Country State Championships held in Hershey on Saturday, November 3rd. Brandis, a senior, clocked 19:42 on the very tough PIAA course to lead her Lady Red Devil teammates to 3rd place in the Single A team standings.

Far from last, and certainly not least, Jim Spisak, running for Duquesne University, finished 10th at the NCAA Division 1 Mid-Atlantic Regional Cross Country Meet in State College last Friday. Spisak's 30:45 over the 10K course was good enough to secure one of just 38 coveted individual qualifyer berths in the NCAA D1 National Meet to be held this Saturday, November 17th at E.P. "Tom" Sawyer State Park in Louisville, KY. Jim is a 2009 graduate of Bishop McCort High School in Johnstown. Run fast at nationals, Jim!

Reader comments are always welcome. If you know a runner that you'd like to recognize for an achievment great , or otherwise, please feel free to post a comment about them.
