Celebrating the Great Pumpkin!

October 18, 2013 - Jim Price
Outdoor fall festivals in the region are starting to dwindle for another year as temperatures turn colder, but at least one festival event will provide some outdoor entertainment this weekend.

Hollidaysburg’s 8th annual Pumpkin Festival takes place on Saturday along Allegheny Street in downtown Hollidaysburg, featuring activities for all ages, pumpkin-based foods, and live musical and other entertainment. The festival begins at 10 a.m., and will feature entertainment both at the Diamond and Courthouse stages. Admission is free, and free hayride “shuttles” will run between the Hollidaysburg YMCA and the festival.

If you prefer a roadtrip this weekend, the annual Fulton Fall Folk Festival will take place at various locations throughout McConnellsburg and other locations in Fulton County. The festival will feature a parade on Saturday, exhibits, food and refreshments, lots of activities for all ages, and live entertainment.

For fans of harder rock, the annual Moorefest memorial benefit concert happens Saturday evening at Windber Recreation Park beginning at 6 p.m. The event celebrates the memory of Josh Moore, and will raise proceeds for the Josh Moore Fulfilling Your Dreams Memorial Fund. Performing will be the bands Grip, Paragon, Day Well Spent, Inside Out, Pivot and Driveline. Donation at the gate is $10 per person. Food and refreshments will be available.

Indoors, one of Baltimore’s top rising modern rock bands makes its Altoona debut on Friday night. Rebel, Inc. will perform at Aldo’s, with special local guests Hate Grenade and Klockwick. The show begins at 10 p.m.

Whether you prefer outdoor or indoor, support live music this weekend and upcoming week! And if you plan to celebrate heavily while doing so, please designate a driver or call a cab!
