Live Music Moves Back Indoors
November 2, 2013 - Jim Price
As November brings cooler late autumn temperatures and possibly some snow flakes this weekend, the area live music scene moves back indoors for the next few months.
One of this weekend’s show highlights may put area music fans into the spirit of the upcoming holiday season early. The Cresson American Legion is hosting a Toys for Tots benefit concert, dinner and dance on Saturday evening. The doors open at 4:30 p.m., with a dinner served at 5:30. The music begins at 7, with performances from Punk Fiction, The Backyard Rockers, The Lux Republic, Josh Gallagher, the debut performance of Root and the Fifths, Strings Radio and Locked & Loaded. Donation at the door is $6, which includes the dinner, and proceeds go to the U.S. Marine Corps’ Toys for Tots program (Ebensburg barracks) to purchase toys for needy area children and families.
For those still into the costuming spirit, at least one more Halloween party remains on Saturday night, Emberstitch’s Halloween bash at Glenn’s Place in Claysburg.
Although the music won’t be outdoor, one more late outdoor fall festival takes place on Sunday afternoon near State College. The Millbrook Marsh Nature Center presents their 11th annual Historic Harvest Festival from 2 to 5 p.m. Included during this event will be children’s activities, snacks and refreshments, access to multiple trails throughout the Millbrook Marsh grounds for autumn leaf and nature hiking, live music by The Backyard Rockers inside the Nature Center’s barn with square dancing afterward. Admission is free. Millbrook Marsh Nature Center is located at 548 Puddintown Road, near the interchange of Routes 322 and 26.
Whether you prefer outdoor or indoor, support live music this weekend and upcoming week! And if you plan to celebrate heavily while doing so, please designate a driver or call a cab!
