Some Musical Alternatives to Hibernation...

January 3, 2014 - Jim Price
In general, the slowest weekend for live music in our region tends to be the very first weekend of the year following New Year’s Day. The venue and music scene seems to take this weekend to catch their collective breath before launching into the New Year. So pickings are a little thin this weekend, but there are some options for the live music connoisseur who doesn’t wish to hibernate, mainly on Saturday night.

For those who want to see themselves in a music video, area modern rockers Hate Grenade are shooting a video Saturday night at Aldo’s (McGarvey’s), as part of an early evening performance from 8 to 11 p.m. The group invites all fans who wish to be a part of the video to attend. The group will debut at least new song during the performance, and admission is free.

A few more local favorites will grace area stages on Saturday night as well, with Shallow Nine at the 4D’s Lounge, Chris Vipond and the Stanley Street Band at the Belmar Hotel, Saving Jake at Glenn’s Place in Claysburg, and Locked and Loaded at Jay’s Place in Ebensburg. And Felix & the Hurricanes will perform at Shaw’s Bar in Juniata both Saturday and Sunday nights.

If you plan to celebrate this weekend, drink responsibly and/or designate a driver. And bundle up!

Support live music this weekend and upcoming week, and resolve to support area music in 2014!
