February 2, 2014 - John Mehno
I'm taking Denver.
I'm basing that on the experience factor, Peyton Manning's ability to succeed against a very good defense, and probably a little bit of wishful thinking. I understand that some people don't like Manning. I don't get that. He conducts himself like a professional, and a championship would be the perfect ending to a record-setting season. Plus, I like John Fox better than Pete Carroll, who has always seemed a little slippery.
No matter what happens, we have to deal with the idea that the football season will be over by about 11 o'clock tonight. Sunday television will be a challenge until baseball gets started again. If it's any consolation, it used to be worse. The NFL wrapped up before the end of the calendar year in the old days, so January was just as bleak as February and March.
In a perfect world, I'd hibernate. Go to sleep tonight and set the alarm for about March 23. That doesn't seem to be an option, though. We have to find something to watch on Sunday afternoons. Olympic speed skating won't do.
