Arts Festivals and More!

July 11, 2014 - Jim Price
Summertime live music action continues to ride at a feverish pitch this weekend and upcoming week, with arts festivals and other outdoor events in the spotlight.

The Central PA Festival of the Arts in downtown State College and the People’s Choice Festival of Pennsylvania Arts & Crafts both feature continuous live music on their stages through Sunday (see listings below). Philipsburg Heritage Days continues with live music through Saturday night.

And several individual concerts also highlight this weekend and upcoming week. Northeastern Ohio-based Metallica tribute Four Horsemen visit Altoona’s Railroaders Museum on Friday night in the latest installment of the Alive @ Five Concert Series, with Half Tempted kicking off the music at 6 p.m. Johnstown’s Flood City Brass performs on the stage at Delgrosso’s Amusement Park in Tipton on Sunday afternoon beginning at 1 p.m. Pittsburgh-based blues artist Barbara Blue brings her powerful, soulful voice to Canal Basin Park in Hollidaysburg Sunday evening starting at 7 p.m. And for vintage rock’n’roll sounds, the Pastime Band continues Blair County Community Action Agency’s Summer in the City Concert Series on Wednesday evening at downtown Altoona’s Heritage Plaza starting at 7 p.m.

For connoisseurs of live music and chicken wings, Lakemont Park’s “Sunday Funday” resumes on Sunday afternoon with music from the bands Zombie Butterflies and Locked & Loaded, plus acoustic entertainment from the Backyard Rockers, Hops & Vines, Tom Six and Jason DeWitt; music starts at 2:30 p.m. And the Legion Park Wingfest continues on Thursday night with Pistol Peg & the Beer Kegs starting at 6 p.m.; attendees are urged to arrive early.

As always, readers are encouraged to support the wide variety of musical talent gracing area stages every week, and help ensure that such music continues to happen. And if alcohol is involved while enjoying the music, please drink responsibly, get a designated driver or call a cab.
