Curve SS Hanson benched again, manager says 'enough is enough'
July 20, 2014 - Cory Giger
Curve shortstop Alen Hanson, who has missed significant time this season because of several lack of hustle incidents, sat out a second straight game Sunday night after getting pulled in the middle of Friday's game.
Hanson is one of the top prospects in the minor leagues, but his repeated benchings have been a bigger story this season than his play.
Manager Carlos Garcia said he had a "good conversation" with Hanson about what's expected of him.
"We've just got to keep refreshing what we're here for, what they play this game for, what we expect, how he's going to be held accountable," Garcia said.
"Enough is enough. It's time to grow up ... as a ballplayer and a person, and a responsible person will understand what he's here for."
Hanson is hitting .285 with 10 homers and 50 RBIs for the Curve and was an Eastern League All-Star. But he also has 27 errors at shortstop and already was benched for one six-game stretch this season for what the Pirates would only deem as developmental issues.
