Break 'em up
April 4, 2007 - Neil Rudel
All those who predicted the Pirates to win 70 games ready to adjust your picks yet?
No so fast, of course.
But the Bucs' 2-0 start -- and the way it's transpired -- should buoy optimism.
They've come from behind in the late innings twice. Xavier Nady has come out of the chute huge. They've gotten two excellent starting pitching performances. The bullpen, mnus Gonzo, has been tough. And they've already won the season's first series in a park where they previously had very little success.
Baseball is a marathon, but at least the Pirates aren't stumbling out of the gate.
The Curve season starts Thursday night. That means the first Tim Leiper's first argument of the season is on the clock.
