Schedule proves Pitt needs PSU

April 7, 2007 - Neil Rudel

I know this is an old song, but I'm going to keep on singin' it.

Did you see the Pitt football schedule? You don't need a drum roll for the home opponents -- Eastern Michigan, Grambling, UConn, Navy, Cincinnati, Syracuse and South Florida.

Better have a good advertising campaign.

The road is tougher, including trips to Michigan State, Virginia, Louisville, Rutgers and WVU.

Of course, the Pitt apologists who think their program is still on a par with Penn State will adamantly tell you there's no reason to play Penn State six times at Beaver Stadium to four at Heinz Field, that such an arrangement is an insult to Pitt.

The fact is Penn State's presence four times over a decade and some creative scheduling to plug in Notre Dame on the other two years would be all Pitt needs to sell out its entire home schedule.

Instead, it feels a 6-and-4 deal is an insult.

The insult is this year's home schedule.
