Sharon Decker’s Favorite On-Field Curve Moment
My favorite on-field moment was on September 3, 2001, when I was literally on the field. Fiore VW sponsored a home run hitting contest and 6 lucky contestants got the chance to win a car. Each contestant got 3 swings to put one over the fence. Even though I was not one of the lucky ones to swing for the car, my role was much more meaningful. My dad, Gene Decker, was asked by Jim Gregory to be the pitcher for the home run contest. Anyone who knows my dad knew he would jump at the opportunity to pitch in front of such a large crowd. He was two weeks shy of his 62nd birthday. After he accepted the opportunity, he was told he had to bring his own catcher. Having played in the Altoona City League for over 40 years, he had many players to choose from. He did not ask any of the catchers who caught his 4 no-hitters or the one who caught his perfect game. He asked me, his daughter, who also jumped at the opportunity.

My favorite moment on the field was when I got to go in the dugout and got my ball signed by all the players. Then I got to be on the jumboscreen!! The food was great and I had a good time.
