Northern Bedford’s Batzel takes over as interim coach
When the Northern Bedford County High School football team lost to North Star, 30-15, in the District 5 Class A championship in November, coach Dan Foor lamented the loss of the graduating seniors. A little more than eight months later, Foor is done as coach. Foor, whose team went 9-2 in 2007, resigned suddenly last week — a month before the 2008 season begins. Athletic director and former girls basketball coach Jeff Batzel has been named interim coach. Why Foor, who went 57-44 in 10 years at Northern Bedford, resigned so close to the start of the season is a mystery. Foor, who Batzel said is in Florida right now, could not be reached for comment because his home phone number has been disconnected. “Dan left for personal reasons and to pursue other career options,” Batzel said. Foor resigned Thursday morning, and he told the team about his decision that night. “He told them about why he was doing it, and he went into some detail,” said Batzel, who was at the meeting.
