W.Pa. school settles suit over threat accusation

GREENSBURG, Pa. (AP) - A western Pennsylvania school district and the state police have settled a federal lawsuit with a former student who was wrongly accused of phoning in a bomb threat to the school.

Cody Webb spent 12 days in juvenile detention in March 2007 after authorities said he called Hempfield Area Senior High School within minutes of a bomb threat. A judge dismissed charges after Cody’s attorney determined the school didn’t move a timer forward for daylight saving time, meaning the call and the threat were made more than an hour apart.

Webb, who was then 15 years old, contends he called to check if there was a recorded message to alert students about a school delay.

Details of the settlement reached earlier this month haven’t been disclosed.
