Fireworks spark scare at Wal-MartMarch 5, 2008 - From Mirror staff reports
EAST FREEDOM — Fireworks set off in the parking lot prompted fears of an explosion and sent police and area fire departments to the new Wal-Mart Supercenter early this morning.
There was no damage to the 156,622-square-foot store, which opens Friday. Freedom Township Police Chief John Reilly confirmed that someone set off fireworks in the store’s parking lot. Neighbors called in the report after hearing noise and seeing smoke drifting across the parking lot, Reilly said. Authorities don’t know who set off the fireworks. Volunteer firefighters from Freedom Township, Roaring Spring, Claysburg, Allegheny Township and Martinsburg responded to the scene, Freedom Township Fire Chief Ron Henry told the Mirror. |
