Ryan A. Ballas, 33, 500 58th St., Altoona, died Wednesday at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital, Pittsburgh, after an extended illness.

He was born in Indiana, Pa., son of Edward and Barbara (Lauber) Ballas.

Surviving are his parents; a brother, Edward Ballas Jr. of Plano, Texas; a sister, Karen George of Altoona; his grandmother, Dorothea Lauber; and several aunts, uncles, cousins, two nephews and a niece.

Mr. Ballas was employed as a design and development technician at Penn State University.

He was a 1993 graduate of Altoona Area High School and a 2004 honors graduate of Penn State University.

Mr. Ballas enjoyed reading, computers and live music.

Friends will be received from 3 to 8 p.m. today at The Stevens Mortuary Inc., 1421 Eighth Ave., Altoona (www

.stevensmortuary.com). A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 22, 2008, at Stevens Memorial Chapel.

The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the charity of your choice.
