Dog owners leave ‘gifts’
I want to take this opportunity to extend my gratitude to the dog owners of my neighborhood.
This summer, they saw a need, unbeknownst to me, that my lawn was under fertilized, which they answered with zeal and enthusiasm.
It seems nearly every day when I walk out of the house, I see some small gift they have left, palpable tokens of the volunteerism and good citizenship of my fellow Juniatans. Since no one individual has come forward to take credit for their donations, I would be remiss if I did not thank you all collectively.
But I do have this to say: I think your kindness has been sufficiently extended to me, and I ask that you find other neighbors in need of your services.
I will try to tread lightly on this issue, as I'm surely venturing into a potential minefield. But I'm sure that I speak for all other homeowners in our city when I say that your kindness would be as welcome on any of their lawns as it has been on mine.
In conclusion, I salute you, Juniata dog owners, for the abundant goodwill you have spread across my lawn, and I'm sure the lawns of many others around me.
Rest assured that this deposit of good works will reap for you the undying affection and adulation of front lawns everywhere, leaving them greener, if not cleaner.

Jason, you must live somewhere in the near vicinity of my home, in lovely Juniata. A specific household of pets find it necessary to relieve themselves in the front and back yards of all who live near. Word to all neighbors... PICK UP YOUR ANIMALS CRAP! I think it may be fun to implement the age old trick of light bags of poo on the porch....

The big question now is will the Mirror put it on this website? They neglect to put on a lot of LTTE's that appear in the real paper. Looking forward to it Bacchus (er..Karen)! Can't wait!

Actually I've tamed down my sarcasm considerably throughout the years, but I can't keep it down for long.

I have made up my mind! I'm writing to the Editor AND I'll sign my name - my REAL name...

You're probably right Jason. Take a look at some of things that have been published lately, like the one about laughing at nothing. Can you imagine the junk that would pile up if they didn't have to give their name! Not everyone thinks about it though (obvious by the amount of garbage that does make it through), which is sad and horribly embarrasing for some!

I'm actually glad they don't allow anonymous letters. It's true that more people would write if no name were required, but is more necessarily better? In my experience, people tend to make stronger, less fact-based (and often more reckless) statements if they don't have to sign their name to them. At least for me, signing my name to something makes me think, "Am I sure I want to send this?"

It's a shame they don't accept ann. letters, I think more people would write them. I had the one and only LTTE that I wrote published in regards to Miguel Padilla, wow that was a long time ago! I say go for it Bacchus, you never give yourself enough credit, wait is that right? Hmm, ha.

So Bacchus, after reading that you're strongly suggesting I not quit my day job? I DID write another one a really long time ago after I returned back home from living away, really complimenting the quality of life around here. Got a lot of kudos for that in spite of there being no Mirror website at the time. Maybe I'll do a re-issue of it?

I would agree with your self-evaluation Raz... I have to admit - I've always wanted to write to the editor, but I'm hesitant to put my name out there, which is part of the point. I wonder if I could sign it "Bacchus, YFEIGC?" So mysterious...

Sorry Raz, I get a little excited when real talent shows itself around here! I mean seriously, there are quite a few, well a lot, of screw balls around here! Perhaps it reminds me of my college days and the poetry classes!

My one and only letter was back on April 20 to the Sunday Sports Mailbag. It was not my best work, and definitely not as good as Jason's! Whoever edited mine didn't help either.

Dear mocus and troll, Ah, if only it were that simple. As I said in the letter, most of these humble contributions were anonymous. Since there are many generous canine souls in my neighborhood, I would have to doggedly pursue my furry friends until I found the perpetrating pup. Also, one of the donations I received did not appear canine in nature, leading me to believe there might be some feline philanthropy afoot. Oh what a tangled web we weave, When we fail to retrieve what our dog relieves.
