PSU Rose Bowl news: Is Evans headed to NFL?
By Cory Giger, cgiger@altoonamirror.comLOS ANGELES -- Penn State junior defensive end Maurice Evans said Tuesday he has submitted his name to the NFL draft advisory committee and may leave school early if he's projected to go high enough in the draft.
Evans, a preseason first-team All-American by some publications, would not say what round would be enticing enough to lure him to the NFL. If he's considered a first-rounder, his decision likely would be made for him. The decision would be tougher if he's told by the advisory committee he's more likely to go in the second or third round.
Evans was asked if he'll be back at PSU next year.
"I have no idea," he said. "We just have to see. I have to sit down and talk to some people."
He added, "I'll just sit down and evaluate with my coach and family and just basically put myself in the best position."
What round is good enough to declare early?
"It depends on the player's preference," Evans said. "If he feels he's a definite first-rounder, go for it. Why not? It all depends on what your living situation is, what your situation is at home. So like, it's just something you've got to sit down and evaluate."
Evans was suspended for the first three games this season after police found marijuana in his apartment. Defensive tackle Abe Koroma also was suspended for that incident.
Check back later today for some of Evans' comments, and check Wednesday's Mirror for more on Evans and Koroma and what they learned from their ordeal.
