DB gives verbal to Lions

January 22, 2009
The Altoona Mirror

Penn State has added a defensive back from Maryland to its 2009 football recruiting class.

Mike Wallace, a 5-foot-10, 185-pound cornerback, committed to the Nittany Lions on Wednesday after making a weekend visit to Penn State, Bill Kurelic of the Nittany Network reported.

Wallace goes to Good Counsel High School, the same school as All-American linebacker Jelani Jenkins, and the two are reportedly best friends. Penn State and Florida are believed to be the two front-runners in pursuit of Jenkins.

A three-year starter, Wallace had four interceptions as a senior. He also has Nittany Lion ties: Wallace's cousin, Terry Killens, was a linebacker at Penn State in the 1990s.

Wallace also had scholarship offers from New Mexico, Stanford, Maine, New Hampshire and Towson. The Nittany Lions now have 26 commitments heading into signing day on Feb. 4.
