Drum concerts held at SFU

LORETTO - As part of the "Arts in the Mountains Summer Music and Arts Festival," St. Francis University and multi-platinum recording artist Jim Donovan will be hosting concerts at 7 p.m. July 31 and Aug. 1 in the JFK Auditorium on the St. Francis campus.

The July 31 show will feature "The Universe of Song Showcase," featuring singer-songwriters from the East Coast, and headlined by the band Berkobin and Corson.

The Aug. 1 show will be the "Night of 1,000 Drums Concert," featuring former Rusted Root drummer Donovan and Congolese musician Elie Kihonia.

The concerts are family friendly and open to all ages. Admission is free.

Blues great to play State

STATE COLLEGE - The State Theatre will present three-time Grammy-winning blues singer Keb' Mo' in concert at 9 p.m. Oct. 24.

Tickets are $44 and go on sale at 11 a.m. today. Tickets can be purchased online at www.StateTickets. org, by calling 272-0606 or at the box office from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday and from noon to 5 p.m. Saturday.

Trench art on display

BOALSBURG - The Pennsylvania Military Museum will feature an exhibit of trench art from World War I in the exhibit "Souvenir Art of the Great War," on display through October.

Trench art was created by soldiers etching, engraving and decorating mementos and memorabilia from the war, such as artillery shells.

Tyrone series begins Sunday

TYRONE - The Tyrone Regional Arts Council's "Summer Sundays" concert series at Reservoir Park's amphitheater begins Sunday and will continue each week through Aug. 30.

All concerts are free and begin at 6 p.m. at the amphitheater, with a rain location of the First English Lutheran Church at Logan Avenue and 13th Street.

The concert schedule is: big band music by The State College Senior Citizens Band on Sunday; traditional Irish music by the Michael O'Brian Band on July 19; swing and jazz by The Second Winds Jazz Band on July 26; classic and contemporary country by Acoustic Gold, featuring Jayson Gold, on Aug. 2; bluegrass and Celtic music by Tree on Aug. 9; big band music by the 17-piece Keystone Society of Swing Big Band on Aug. 16; rock versions of traditional Irish/Scottish music by Full Kilt on Aug. 23; and a show by Zupe on Aug. 30.

'Game' begins Tuesday

JENNERSTOWN - The Mountain Playhouse's production of the classic musical "The Pajama Game" opens Tuesday and continues through Aug. 2.

Performances will be at 8 p.m. Tuesday through July 18, July 21 through July 25 and July 28 through Aug. 1, at 2 p.m. July 15, 17, 22, 24, 27 and 31 and at 3 p.m. July 19 and 26 and Aug. 2.

"The Pajama Game" opened on Broadway in 1954 and is best known for launching the careers of choreographer Bob Fosse and actress Shirley MacLaine.
