Penn State's depth chart for this week's season opener against Akron was released Monday and held few surprises, with perhaps the biggest one being sophomore Chaz Powell listed as a second-team receiver.
The Nittany Lions rotate the wideouts a lot, so Powell is expected to get a lot of playing time. Sophomore Derek Moye joins juniors Graham Zug and Brett Brackett as the first-team receivers.
Senior cornerback A.J. Wallace is listed with the second team, and his status for Saturday's game is still unclear. Joe Paterno said he may suspend Wallace for a game or two for cutting classes during the summer.
The starting tight end is listed as either senior Mickey Shuler or senior Andrew Quarless. Redshirt freshman Matt Stankiewitch is the first-team left guard, beating out sophomore Johnnie Troutman.
There were a couple of position battles in the secondary. Sophomore D'Anton Lynn is the first-team right cornerback, while sophomore Nick Sukay is the hero, or strong safety.
There had been the possibility of junior linebacker Chris Colasanti redshirting. But with sophomore Michael Mauti going down with a season-ending knee injury, Colasanti is listed as a second-teamer at one of the outside spots.
