TYRONE - The Tyrone Community Players' annual membership meeting to select next season's productions was held Tuesday at the TCP Building on Logan Ave.
The theatre group's play reading committee worked very hard to offer a variety of shows. Actors from the group read selections for the members in attendance and then the voting began.
In some cases, it wasn't even close, but according to Cindy Bennett, one of the founders of TCP, there were some shows narrowly edged out.
The TCP will present the Tony Award-winning "25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee" for its fall 2010 show. The 2011 spring musical will be "Christmas in Tuna," one of the "Greater Tuna" series of shows, which features a two-man cast performing more than 20 characters. The summer 2011 production will be the Off-Broadway hit "The Spitfire Grill."
Bennett said the next step was finding the crew for the shows.
"Our next big challenge is finding directors for each of these shows, but that can come later," she said. "We also have to select what children's show we're going to do. That show will be just for the talented TCP kids. We've tentatively scheduled that one during the summer, but did not have any plays chosen or dates decided.
Currently, the TCP are celebrating their silver anniversary season. "A Walk Down Memory Lane" will be performed on Feb. 26 and 27. It features highlights from past TCP shows presented by the Tyrone Community Players and the group's alumni.
