'Idol' champ to play show

STATE COLLEGE - "American Idol" Season 8 champion Kris Allen will perform at 8 p.m. Sept. 2 at The State Theatre.

The second single from Allen's self-titled debut, "The Truth," was released in mid-May and features Train singer Pat Monahan.

Tickets for the show are $25 and can be purchased at the State Theatre box office, online at www.statetickets.org or by calling 272-0606.

PSU Altoona exhibits art

The Division of Arts and Humanities will feature an exhibition of works by Christopher Troutman and Diana Baumbach from Aug. 19 to Oct. 3 in the Sheetz and McLanahan Galleries of the Misciagna Family Center for Performing Arts.

A reception for both artists will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. Sept. 2 in the Titelman Study of the Misciagna Center.

The exhibitions are free and open to the public.

Rappers play Altar Bar

PITTSBURGH - Rappers Method Man and Redman will perform in concert at 8 p.m. Aug. 17 at The Altar Bar, 1620 Penn Ave. The show will have an opening act to be determined and is for ages 21 and older only.

This tour is in support of the duo's upcoming album "Blackout 2." The pair's 1999 album "Blackout!" was a platinum seller and produced several hit singles.

ACT casting for new show

Altoona Community Theatre will hold open auditions for the musical "Working" at 7 p.m. Sunday and Monday in the ACT Rehearsal Hall, 1213 12th St., Altoona.

"Working" will open ACT's 2010-2011 season with performances from Sept. 23 to Sept. 26.

Needed are actors and singers of all character types and ages, including roles for a black man and woman and a teenage Hispanic boy. Prior experience or past participation with ACT is not required and no preparation is necessary for the auditions.

Hip-hop stars visit BJC

UNIVERSITY PARK - Young hip-hop stars B.o.B and Travie McCoy will perform at Penn State's Bryce Jordan Center at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 31.

B.o.B.'s debut album, "B.o.B Presents: The Adventures of Bobby Ray" debuted at No. 1 on the billboad album charts in April and spawned two hits already, "Nothing on You"" and current single "Airplanes," featuring Hayley Williams of the rock group Paramore.

McCoy is the lead singer of Gym Class Heroes and recently produced a solo album called "Lazarus." The lead single, "Billionaire," featuring Bruno Mars, is currently a hit.

Design artists get show

LORETTO - The Southern Alleghenies Museum of Art at Loretto will open its latest exhibition, "Challenge VII: dysFUNctional" on Aug. 13. The touring exhibition from The Wood Turning Center in Philadelphia features 33 works by 30 artists from around the world.

It will remain on view through Nov. 6. The museum will celebrate this exhibition, and the exhibition "George LaVanish: Wild Art," with a reception at 5 p.m. Aug. 13.

Cost for the reception is $15 for SAMA members or $18 for non-members. Reservations are required by Aug. 10 and can be made by calling 814-472-3920.

SAMA Loretto is located on the campus of St. Francis University. Hours of operation are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 1 to 5 p.m. Saturdays. Admission is free.
