Microbrew event returns
STATE COLLEGE - After a one year hiatus, the State College Microbrewer's Expo will return on Aug. 28 at The Penn Stater hotel on the Penn State University Park campus.
Doors open for the exposition at 2 p.m. The event will last until 6 p.m. An exclusive VIP session will be held from 1 to 2 p.m.
Coordinated by Mike and Malissa Martin, the expo will feature brewers from around the area and state. The event will also feature an all-you-can-eat buffet and three educational seminars, including one hosted by local beer connoisseur Greg Somers, the expo's founder.
Tickets are $50 for the event and are available only at the Hotel State College desk, above the Corner Room restaurant in downtown State College. Admission to the VIP event is an additional $25.
The Expo's proceeds will benefit the American Cancer Society's Coaches vs. Cancer of Penn State program.

Father-son duo star for CLP
LORETTO - Cresson Lake Playhouse will present the play "Tuesdays with Morrie" at 8 p.m. Sept. 2-4 and 7-11 and at 2 p.m. Sept. 5 at the Loretto theater.
"Tuesdays with Morrie" is an adaptation of the best-selling book by sportswriter Mitch Albom, in which Albom reconnects with a favorite college professor who has been diagnosed with Lou Gehrig's Disease. The Cresson Lake performance features Summerhill's Owen Standley as Albom, while Standley's real-life father, Bruce Standley, portrays Albom's professor, Morrie Schwartz.
Tickets for the show are $17 for adults and $10 for students with an I.D. Tickets are available by calling 472-4333 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday or at the door.
TCP casting for 'Putnam'
TYRONE - The Tyrone Community Players will hold auditions for their fall musical, "The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee," at 7 p.m. Aug. 29 and 30 in The Building, 10th Street and Logan Avenue. Auditions will be in the second floor ballroom.
The unique feature of this musical is that all the children (between the ages of 10 and 13) who are participants in "The Bee" will be played by adults. Cindy Bennett is the show's director and musical direction is by Darcy Wilson.
Auditioners will be asked to read from the script and "find/show your inner child," as well as perform a short vocal selection (no more than 48 bars), preferably from the show.

Epitaph bands lead show
Epitaph Records artist Our Last Night will headline a rock show at The Eldolyn Terrace at 5 p.m. Aug. 22. Other bands performing include I Am Abomination, Veara, Seas We Fear to Sail and How to Win a War.
Our Last Night is a post-hardcore band that recently released their sophomore album, "We Will All Evolve." I Am Abomination, signed to Goodfight Music, just released their debut album, "To Our Forefathers." Punk rockers Veara are also signed to Epitaph Records and recently released their debut, "What We Left Behind."
Tickets for the show are $10 and $12 and are available at the door.
Theater hosts Disco Biscuits
STATE COLLEGE - Philadelphia band Disco Biscuits pioneered the "trance-fusion" - mixing the electronica and jam band styles - in the mid-'90s.
They'll bring that signature sound to the area when they perform at 9 p.m. Sept. 7 at The State Theatre.
The Disco Biscuits recently released their 13th album, "Planet Anthem."
Opening for the group will be MiM0sa, an eclectic hip-hop/crunk performer who mixes electronica-style beats into his songs.
