Altoona Teener League to host state tourney

The Altoona Area Teener Baseball League will host the 2011 Babe Ruth League, Inc. 13-year-old Pennsylvania State Tournament at Seitz Field beginning on July 21.

The tournament will include nine teams from across Pennsylvania which have won their respective district tournaments. A team from the Teener League will also compete.

The winner of the state tournament will move on to the regional tournament in S. Colonie, N.Y., beginning Aug. 6. That winner will go to the Babe Ruth League World Series to be played in Clifton Park, N.Y. from Aug. 19-26.

Fourteen and 15-year-old Teener League teams will also be participating in District Babe Ruth Tournaments and will be able to advance to the State Tournament and Babe Ruth World Series which will be held in Glen Allen, Va., and Jamestown, N.Y., respectively.

"We are honored to have been accepted to host this tournament,'' Altoona Teener League president Dale Snyder said. "This is one of the most prestigious baseball tournaments in the country."

CC runners honored

Central Cambria's girls cross country team was undefeated in the Laurel Highlands Athletic Conference and was rewarded with two honors.

Kendall Seymour was named all-conference, and coach Randy Wilson was named coach of the year.

Other area all-conference team members include Alyssa Pagano from Cambria Heights, Carrie Baker from Bedford, Jalynn Smithmyer from Penn Cambria, and Brittni Stine from Bishop Guilfoyle Catholic.

On the boys side, the Red Devils finished 9-1 and had Arjun Vyas make all-conference.

Other area all-conference team members include Nick Frank from Penn Cambria, Michael Sheridan from Cambria Heights, Colin Coffield from Bedford, Jared Keller from Bishop Guilfoyle Catholic and Mason Koehle from Bishop Carroll.
