Weather advisory issued for region

January 18, 2011
The Altoona Mirror

A winter weather advisory is in effect until 5 a.m. Wednesday for the Mirror coverage area, the National Weather Service in State College said.

A light glaze of ice is expected, the weather service said. Any snow accumulations should be less than 1 inch and confined to the mountains north of Interstate 80.

Precipitation should taper off between 5 and 8 a.m. Wednesday.

A winter weather advisory means that periods of snow, sleet or freezing rain will cause travel difficulties. Be prepared for slippery roads and limited visibilities, and use caution while driving, the weather service said.

Motorists should be especially cautious on bridges and overpasses, where slippery spots develop first.
